Christmas is meant to be a season of joy, warmth, and togetherness. Yet for many families and children across underserved communities, it can easily become just another day of survival. A Smile for Christmas 2025 was created to change that narrative, even if only for a day.
This year marked the fourth edition of A Smile for Christmas, and it was our biggest and most far-reaching yet. What began years ago as a simple act of compassion has grown into a multi-country initiative that brings dignity, laughter, and hope to children and families who need it most.
A Growing Impact Across Four Countries
In 2025, A Smile for Christmas reached communities and orphanages across Ghana, Kenya, Nigeria, and Uganda, reminding hundreds of families that they are seen, valued, and not forgotten.
Ghana
Over the course of two days, celebrations were held in Ekroful, Osubonpanyin, and Pomadze, bringing together over 800 children and community members. The days were filled with games, food, performances, learning activities, and shared moments of joy. Children showcased their talents through dance, drama, poetry, and reading, while parents, guardians, teachers, and community leaders gathered to cheer them on. The support of the chiefs, elders, teachers, volunteers, and the wider community made these moments truly special.
Kenya
In Meru District and Bungoma, the focus was on supporting families facing the greatest challenges. Over 50 families, including elderly households, persons with disabilities, and single-parent families, received food support. Our long-standing partnership with Ark of Hope made it possible to reach these households and continue our shared commitment to keeping children in school and off the streets.
Uganda
At the Centre of Love Children Orphanage, we were welcomed with open arms. The children spent the day laughing, eating, playing, and simply being children. Witnessing their joy was deeply humbling and a powerful reminder that impact is often found in the smallest moments.
Nigeria
Through collaboration with Love Melody Orphanage and Foundation, the joy of Christmas extended beyond the orphanage walls to children living on the streets. This ensured that even the most vulnerable experienced warmth, care, and celebration during the festive season.
More Than an Event
A Smile for Christmas is not just about food, gifts, or activities. It is about restoring dignity, keeping families together, and allowing children to experience childhood without the weight of survival, even if only for one day. For many, this is the only Christmas meal they will share, the only time they will laugh freely, and the only moment they will feel truly celebrated.
